Heide Weidner
Pine Hill Pottery
Heide Weidner studied ceramics at the University of Southern Indiana in the 1980s and has been working with clay and teaching clay ever since. From time to time, she takes advantage of the great classes ACC offers during the year and especially in summer. Most influential has been a workshop with Lana Wilson in which she was introduced to porcelain paper clay. For the last several years, she has attended clay workshops at Shakerag/St. Andrews-Sewanee, TN, that focused on glazing, hand-building, porcelain, and lidded vessels. She has shown her work locally at the WCTE Gallery, at CAS and at Art Prowl. Heide says about her love of working with clay: “Clay appeals to me. It is of the earth and over the years has absorbed parts of its surroundings: minerals, quartz, metal oxides, organic matter, and water. In other words, it is much like human beings who grow up and share in whoever and whatever touches them. When you lift up a cup or a plate—or whatever it is the artist made of clay—you are reminded of yourself and your endless possibilities.”
