Feathers+Flora
Somewhere between the sands of South Florida and the songs of Nashville I found my love for painting the Feathers+Flora around me. Discovering my favorite medium of acrylic at an early age it gave me the opportunity to develop and change my style and technique over the years. As a young artist I found inspiration in the small flowers of Georgia O’Keeffe and desired for them to be larger than life floral works. O’Keeffe’s buildings and landscapes lent themselves to my Caribbean building-scapes with their simple lines and bright bold tropical colors.
As I taught myself to work and blend with the quicker drying acrylics it posed a challenge on these larger canvases but, working on the curves and the folds of the flowers brought a new vision of forms and lines into my artwork. With this new sight I transitioned into painting a more diluted abstract sensual image of the female figure. Now placing emphasis on the simple form and not on the intimate detail the body. And yet, still bold with their colors as with all my works, color has always remained the primary focus.
After a long hiatus, I returned to my favorite medium and my brushes, found my love for painting once again and made myself a special place to create. Inspired by the colors of my travels to the Caribbean and the Florida Keys I found my most beloved feathered muses. Forever changing and teaching myself new techniques, I began to paint smaller and kept it grand. This time it was all about the details, the details of the colors.
With that the name, Feathers+Flora. A love for my new art and a tribute to my past works that I always love to revisit, will bring you into my world of sunny days in the South Florida Keys.
