Brigitte McCray
Brigitte McCray has spent many years in academia surrounded by books and teaching literature and writing to college students. Yearning for space and work that fed her love for the natural world, she turned to painting and drawing, which allows her to more fully explore her connection to place, especially the Southern Appalachian Mountains where she grew up. Since she was a young girl climbing the American Chestnut Tree in her grandparents’ yard, the natural world has always been where she felt most alive and connected to her ancestors and heritage. Through her work in landscape, wildlife, and botanical art, Brigitte hopes to make her viewer feel immersed in nature. She works mostly in watercolor, ink, graphite, and charcoal.
